Guaimaca, Honduras Honduran Mission

St. Rose of Lima Parish

The The Parish is located in the town of Guaimaca, F.M., Honduras and it belongs to the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Tegucigalpa.  The Bishop of the Archdiocese is Cardinal Oscar Andres Rodriguez.

St. Rose of Lima Parish is a typical catholic parish in that we celebrate the Sacraments, Holy Hour, Lectio Divina, the rosary and other celebrations according to the liturgical seasons.  In addition, we mark special days and seasons with processions, Advent posadas, the Way of the Cross, and other cultural celebrations.

Father Craig Pregana is a priest of the Diocese of Fall River and serves as the pastor of the parish.  He visits the more than 25 villages to celebrate Mass and the Sacraments.  A group of “Delegates of the Word of God” help in the parish ministry.  These 45 men and women live and work in their respective villages and they represent the Church in their communities where they conduct the Celebration of the Word each Sunday and Holy Day.  Fr. Craig visits the villages approximately every one or two months, depending on the road conditions.

The Diocese of Fall River has committed to provide for the spiritual and sacramental needs of Gods people in these mission communities. Each of us is called to do our part in bringing the Gospel to the missions!

Mass daily?

Mass is celebrate each week in the parish church in Guaimaca, however in the outlying villages, Mass is celebrately monthly.

However, in the rainy season, the dirt roads prevent safe travel and Mass is celebrated less frequently.

Those in outlying villages consider it a blessing to have Mass celebrated weekly.

Reflection: How often are you able to participate in the Eucharist?
