St. Vincent de Paul Society
Inspired by the work of the parish societies of St. Vincent de Paul, the parish of St. Rose of Lima has formed a St. Vincent de Paul Society to reach out to the poorest of the poor in the community.
The "Food Bag" program, for example, assists families in the poorest barrios. Regularly the members travel to the poorest barrios with bags of food and clothing to those who need it most. Generally, they are single mothers with many children and no chance to work. Each bag of food contains the basics for the family: rice, beans, milk, sugar, flour, etc.
The generosity of parishioners back home and parish SVdP Societies makes this outreach possible. As some Mission visitors have told us: It’s heartbreaking to see the misery in which these families live, but it’s just as heartwarming to know our Diocese is putting into practice the heart of the Gospel. “When you did it for the least of my brothers or sisters, you did it for me.” (Matthew 25)
